Football is regularly played by more than 250 girls and boys and we field 22 teams from U12s-U16s and four senior squads. We aim to create a sporting and learning culture to cover all aspects of the game, from the technical to the tactical.

We have a dedicated team of professional UEFA-qualified football coaches who take responsibility for football sessions during Games, after-school training and matches. The majority of the football sessions are played at our amazing pitches at Ditton Field where we have three full- size pitches, one 9 a-side and two 5 a-side grass pitches.

The School participates in the English Schools FA (ESFA), Independent Schools’ FA (ISFA) and Surrey Schools competitions, with the 1st XI and 2nd XI also entering the London Independent and Trinity Cup competitions. In 2015 we introduced girls’ football and have reached the last 16 of the ESFA Cup on three occasions. Every two years we embark on a European tour, with previous destinations including Valencia, FC Porto and Benfica.

In 2016, Futsal was introduced to KGS and we have already had success, often placing in the top six schools in the country. The nature of Futsal, with the smaller confines of the pitch that makes it harder to find space, the line markings that prevents easy escape from tight situations (such as in traditional 5-a-side where players can play the ball off the wall), and the smaller heavier ball which supports closer ball control and manipulation, supports the technical development of young players in a multitude of ways.

Football has been played at KGS since 1886 although it was only in 1889 that the School adopted the new 'Association' rules and played the 11-a-side game. Our early fixture cards included matches against other schools in the 1889-90 season including St George’s College, a fixture that our senior teams still play today and that is celebrated in our classic 1890 Cup clash. The School also has links to the Old Boys’ Football Club with the Old Kingstonians competing in the prestigious Arthurian League and Arthur Dunn Cup.
