Music Society

Music Society

The Music Society supports the great variety of music that goes on at KGS and we work closely with the Music Department, headed by Mark Laflin.  Music at KGS is inclusive and the Music Department seeks to promote music throughout the school community which the Music Society supports wholeheartedly.  It is our hope that most pupils will become involved in music at some level whilst they are at KGS - whether this is throughout their time at KGS, throughout the academic year, for a single concert or for the month of House Music.  From music scholars to those wanting to give music a go for the first time, students should find opportunities at KGS and the Music Society would like to support their experience.

We raise funds through membership and providing refreshments at school events; we use them to fund and sponsor music initiatives and to support the Music Department.  Over the years we have sponsored workshops and masterclasses, the purchase of new instruments, lessons in endangered instruments and we have supported school music trips.

We meet in the Autumn and Spring Terms and you will see us selling refreshments at school music concerts throughout the school year. Do come over and introduce yourself - we'd love to meet you. And if you or your child is interested in music, do please sign up and join us.  We know everyone is busy and there is no expectation that members get involved - your membership itself is hugely appreciated and will be put to good use.  And, if you would like to get involved more regularly, do please join the Committee and help us allocate our funds and serve refreshments!

Family membership costs £15 per annum and this will be added to your school bill.  If you would like to know more about what we do or if you are interested in becoming a member, please contact the Music Society via Lorraine Calder (Music Administrator) at [email protected].

We look forward to an exciting programme of events for 2024/25 which will include an Autumn Concert, a Jazz and Pop Concert, a Spring Orchestral Concert, Chamber Music and House Music alongside regular opportunities to perform in Lovekyn lunchtime recitals. We look forward to seeing you and your children there!
