The Girls' J16 Coxless Pair of Sorrel Humphrey (stroke) and Freya King (bow) took the Gold Medal at the National Schools' Regatta on Sunday 28th May.
Sorrel and Freya who are coached by Head of Rowing, Phil Simmons, won the Headington Cup in dramatic fashion, having won the time trial and their semi-final convincingly, the girls found themselves lying in fourth place as the came towards the end of the final.
However, a dramatic burst of speed in the final 250 metres was too much for the opposition and Sorrel and Freya were able to row through the other crews in order to take the gold medal.
Mr Simmons commented, "this is a fantastic and deserved result for Freya and Sorrel and I am delighted for them.
They have worked very hard all year and we knew that they might be 'in with a shout' at a medal given the speed they showed on training camp in France, so for them to have won the gold is superb."
