Students and staff at Kingston Grammar School are once again celebrating some excellent A Level examination results.

Despite the increased challenges of more rigorous assessments, over 80% of the students gained A*-B grades and more than 50% achieved A*/A. We are delighted that so many of our students have secured places at their university of choice.

Students Rebecca Dodd and Matthew Pugh are amongst the KGS students who have achieved places at Oxbridge this year.

Rebecca commented:

My teachers have been so supportive and gave me the confidence to apply to Oxford. I am overwhelmed and so excited to be going there to study.”

Matthew said:

I am overjoyed that my hard word has paid off. The Classics Department at KGS was really helpful and got me interested in the course.

Rebecca and Matthew are amongst nearly 30 students who attained all A*/A grades. Also in this group were Miranda Worth, Nicole George and Troy O’Dowd who are going on to study Medicine at Newcastle, Imperial and Nottingham universities respectively. Miranda, along with fellow students Joe Malbon and Bethany Williams, achieved 3 A* grades in what has been a hugely successful and fulfilling time for them at the School.

Alongside their A Levels, some of our students have also been collecting results for academically rigorous Pre-U courses. In Economics, Joe Mallinson, Emile Pinder-Hussein and Jenny Shpeter all achieved the highest possible D1 grade which exceeds the equivalent A* at A Level.

This examination success comes hot on the heels of the School’s superb inspection report which awarded KGS the highest grading across all categories, remarking particularly on the excellence within academia and pastoral care as well as the co-curricular offering that expands students’ awareness and horizons.

Head Master Stephen Lehec said,

We are delighted for all the students and congratulate both them and the staff at KGS on these wonderful results. Just as importantly, for us as an academic co-educational school, is the recognition that good grades do not have to be sacrificed for excellent pastoral care, or vice versa. We believe a truly outstanding education offers excellence across the board and these results and the young people who have achieved them are evidence of this. Our students will go on to make a positive difference to the world. We are, and will continue to be, very proud of them.
