Three students from Kingston Grammar School have been awarded prestigious rowing scholarships from top American universities, starting in August 2020.
Upper Sixth students Hannah Medcalf, Lily Abbott and Sophie Fussell have each been offered a four-year scholarship to study at the University of Texas, Duke University in North Carolina and the University of California in Los Angeles respectively.
Mr Ed Green, Director of Rowing at KGS said, “I am very proud of what the students have achieved. They’ve worked relentlessly, week in, week out, and in all weathers and these hard-won offers are proof of their commitment to the sport.”
KGS Head Master, Mr Stephen Lehec said, “We are exceptionally proud of the students. They have demonstrated steadfast commitment and determination in achieving these rowing scholarships. No doubt we will be hearing a lot more about them in the very near future.”
As is the US tradition, today the three students and their families came to Kingston Grammar School for a ‘signing celebration’ as a form of acceptance.
